The Sandals resort name changes affect 14 Sandals resorts and Beaches Negril. The October 2026 names put each island up front. For example, Sandals Royal Bahamian is now Sandals Bahamas Nassau. Sandals Ochi is now Sandals Jamaica Ocho Rios.

Use the list below to match an old quote or review with the resort’s new name. Then check your dates. Three Jamaica resorts also have plans to reopen after major work.

If you saved resort photos last year, you may now see a new name for the same place. The name helps us find the right resort. Next, we check the brand, room and dates.

Which resort names are staying the same?

These names stay the same: Sandals Barbados, Sandals Royal Barbados, Sandals Grenada and Beaches Turks & Caicos. The list shows 15 new names for resorts that already exist.

Beach and pools at Sandals Bahamas Nassau, formerly Sandals Royal Bahamian
Sandals Bahamas Nassau is the current name for the Nassau resort long known as Sandals Royal Bahamian.

What do the new names mean for an existing booking?

A new name alone does not mean you booked a new resort. For example, an old Royal Bahamian quote can refer to the resort now called Sandals Bahamas Nassau.

Before you change your trip, check the details on your booking. I start with these five checks:

  1. Brand: Sandals or Beaches.
  2. Destination: the island and specific resort.
  3. Dates: arrival, departure and any reopening notice.
  4. Room: the booked category or room code.
  5. Included arrangements: transfers, special requests and any written supplier updates.

Next, keep your first booking record. Check each new quote against it. A new resort name does not mean a room upgrade, a new rate or a change in what your stay includes.

If you booked through Traveling Ears Vacations, we can check the details with you. If you booked elsewhere, ask the team that booked your trip. For a new stay, we can help you choose before you book.

My planning advice: Match the resort and room at the same time. Two quotes can use two hotel names for the same stay. Yet two quotes that both say “Negril” can mean two brands and two kinds of trip.

Three resort-name mix-ups worth catching before you book

Sandals Jamaica Ocho Rios and Beaches Ocho Rios are different resorts

Sandals Jamaica Ocho Rios is the new name for Sandals Ochi, an adults-only resort for couples. Meanwhile, Beaches Ocho Rios was a resort for families. Beaches Ocho Rios closed on May 31, 2025; its official page does not list a date to reopen.

So, if you want a trip with kids, start with Beaches options that fit your dates. The Sandals Ochi name change does not turn it into a family resort. Our Beaches resort comparison for families can help you choose.

Sandals Jamaica Negril and Beaches Jamaica Negril are separate choices

Both new names include Jamaica and Negril. However, Sandals remains an adults-only choice for couples, while Beaches welcomes families. Check the full brand name before you choose a room or share a link with your group.

For example, a couple on a honeymoon and a group with kids may both want Negril. Each group still needs a resort that fits its plans.

Sandals Bahamas Nassau is not the former Sandals Emerald Bay

Royal Bahamian’s new name places it in Nassau. Sandals Emerald Bay was in Exuma, a different island. It closed on August 15, 2024 for work to turn it into Beaches Bahamas Exuma.

The official Emerald Bay notice gives no firm opening date for that Beaches resort. So, the Nassau name change does not mean you can book the Exuma resort.

Pirates Island waterpark at Beaches Jamaica Negril, formerly Beaches Negril
Beaches Jamaica Negril retains its family-resort identity. Its name is distinct from Sandals Jamaica Negril.

Jamaica reopening dates need a separate check

In Jamaica, three resorts also have plans to reopen after major work. Check the name and the dates as two parts of your choice. Sandals’ official Jamaica reopening page lists these dates:

  • Sandals Jamaica South Coast: scheduled to reopen November 18, 2026.
  • Sandals Jamaica Montego Bay: scheduled to reopen December 18, 2026.
  • Sandals Jamaica Caribbean Cay: scheduled to reopen December 18, 2026.

These are planned dates, checked October 30, 2026. Before you book, check the latest plans for the dates you want.

Also, check the date of any review you read. New work can change the pool, rooms, bars or places to eat. For these three resorts, use old photos as a guide to the past. Then check the room and resort plans for your own stay.

This helps if one room, pool or meal is the reason you want to go. First, name what matters most. Then ask if it will be open for your stay.

How I use the name list to plan your trip

Start with the name list, then read the resort guide. Now we have the right place. Next, we find the stay that fits you.

For couples, I compare the beach, resort pace, airport ride and room. For families, I also ask about the kids’ ages, beds and things to do. Then we match those needs to your dates and budget.

For instance, Grand Bay’s new name is one part of a Saint Lucia choice. The beach, hills and travel time still shape the trip. Our Sandals resort comparison guide helps you compare.

Likewise, a new name does not choose the best island for your family. Our Beaches Jamaica Negril versus Turks & Caicos comparison helps you weigh those two resorts.

Resort building and pool at Sandals Curaçao, formerly Sandals Royal Curaçao
Sandals Royal Curaçao now appears as Sandals Curaçao. Use the resort guide to compare its setting and room options.

What is Sandals Grande St. Lucian called now?

What is Beaches Negril’s new name?

Beaches Negril is now Beaches Jamaica Negril. It is the Beaches family resort in Negril, Jamaica. Sandals Jamaica Negril is a separate resort for adults.

Should I cancel and rebook because the resort name changed?

A name change alone is not a reason to cancel your trip. First, ask the team that booked it to check the resort and terms. Also, check any closure or new resort plans that affect your dates.

Why do reviews and videos still use the old resort names?

Many reviews and videos date from before October 2026. Use both names to find the resort, then check when the guest stayed. This helps you judge old photos of the three Jamaica resorts with plans to reopen.
