My firsthand experience with Disney cruise rooms

I have stayed across Disney Cruise Line room styles, including concierge, verandah, family verandah and deluxe verandah accommodations. I have sailed five times on Disney Wish, four times on Disney Treasure and four times on Disney Destiny. Most of my stays have been on decks 7, 8 and 9, and I have chosen concierge a couple of times. A verandah is now my personal preference: when the children are watching television or resting in the afternoon or evening, that outdoor space gives us another place to spend time together. That does not make those decks or that room category automatically right for every family. That experience informs how I compare a room’s sleeping setup, location and outdoor space with the way a family will actually use it.
I have not sailed on Disney Believe, which is still upcoming. I will use its own published cabin plans and category descriptions before recommending a specific room number.
Disney Believe room themes by deck: what is reported
Attractions Magazine reports that a Disney representative confirmed the following theme groupings at the reveal. This is attributed deck-level reporting, not a guarantee of the artwork in a particular cabin.
| Decks / accommodation | Reported décor |
|---|---|
| 2, 6 and 7 | Moana and The Lion King |
| 8 and 9 | Coco and Zootopia |
| 10 and 11 | Inside Out; Toy Story in the special above-bridge concierge rooms |
| 12 and 13 concierge | Peter Pan |
Why a room theme should not choose the cabin for you
If one child loves Moana and another needs a particular sleeping arrangement, I would solve the sleeping arrangement first. A room’s theme will not fix an unsuitable bed setup, lack of privacy or a location that makes your daily routine difficult. Ask us to verify the exact category and layout rather than choose by a deck-wide theme alone.
How to compare the published room sizes
Disney’s accommodation overview lists inside rooms at 169 square feet, oceanview categories across 181–363 square feet and verandah categories across 243–796 square feet, including the balcony. These ranges cover different categories. They are not three directly comparable individual cabins.
Before judging a room by its square footage, check whether the measurement includes outdoor space, the permitted guest count and the actual sleeping arrangement. A verandah gives our family useful outdoor space when the children rest, but it does not mean more indoor floor space in every comparison.
Connecting is different from nearby
If an interior connecting door matters, confirm the specific pair of cabins together. Two rooms next to each other or on the same deck may not solve the same need. For upgraded accommodations, the Believe concierge guide explains the separate questions about room layout and service benefits.
The cabin comparison that matters
| Check | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| Occupancy | Whether the exact cabin accepts your party and ages. |
| Sleeping positions | Who uses the main bed, sofa bed or upper berth. |
| Connecting rooms | Whether an internal connecting door is shown; adjacent is not the same as connecting. |
| Location | What sits above, below and beside the cabin, plus your route to daily activities. |
| Accessibility | The specific doorway, bathroom and room features you require. |
| View | Whether any obstruction is disclosed for that exact category or cabin. |
No “secret” Believe cabin number is recommended here before its own plans and descriptions can be checked.
Disney Cruise Line Stateroom Categories Explained
On operating Disney ships, inside cabins have no exterior window, oceanview cabins add a window or porthole, and verandah cabins add private outdoor space. Concierge is a service category with its own accommodation choices. Believe will have 1,246 staterooms. Announced artwork includes Moana, Coco and The Lion King. Category-specific occupancy, beds, bathrooms and connecting doors still matter more than the theme.
Inside vs Oceanview vs Verandah vs Concierge
Use this comparison as a starting point, then confirm the exact room options on your Disney Cruise Line ship and sailing.
| Stateroom Type | Best For | Main Benefit | Best Trip Type | Main Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inside | Budget-aware travelers who spend little time in the room | Usually the lowest entry price | Shorter sailings or very active travelers | No true exterior view |
| Oceanview | Guests who want natural light without a private balcony | Window or porthole-style outside view | Families and first-time cruisers wanting a middle ground | No private outdoor space |
| Verandah | Travelers who want private outdoor space | Fresh air and a quieter place to retreat | Longer cruises, scenic itineraries, nap-time families | Higher cost than Inside or Oceanview |
| Concierge | Guests who value added service and convenience | Higher service level and select added benefits | Milestone trips or travelers prioritizing support | Significant price jump that may not fit every budget |
If you are torn between Inside and Oceanview, ask yourself how much natural light matters to you. For some travelers, it is not a big deal. For others, especially on longer cruises, it helps the room feel more comfortable and less closed in.
If you are torn between Oceanview and Verandah, the real question is whether you will use the private outdoor space. Not just whether it sounds nice. Will you sit out there in the morning? Will one person relax outside while another gets ready? Will a child nap while an adult can still enjoy ocean air? That is where the value becomes more practical.
If you are considering Concierge, think about what kind of traveler you are. Some guests love having extra support and find the added service worth it. Others are perfectly happy without it and would rather put the budget toward a longer sailing, pre-cruise hotel, excursions, or another trip. Neither answer is wrong.
Is It Worth Upgrading Your Disney Cruise Line Stateroom?
Compare the complete price difference for the same sailing and party. An upgrade is useful when it solves a specific problem: a needed bed, a second room, natural light or outdoor space you expect to use. If it only changes a view you will rarely enjoy, put that premium beside other trip priorities before deciding.
What to Check on the Deck Plan Before You Book
Inspect the deck above and below as well as the cabin’s own deck. Identify public venues, service areas, connecting doors, elevators and the route to your regular destinations. Check official category notes for view restrictions and accessibility details.
For two cabins, confirm that both are available together and that the allocation of adults and children complies with Disney’s booking rules. A request for nearby rooms is not the same as confirmed connecting inventory.
Questions answered
Is the Disney Believe ship name confirmed?
Yes. Disney Believe is the announced upcoming ship. Its maiden voyage is scheduled for December 18, 2027. Published room descriptions are available; cabin inventory depends on the sailing.
Are adjacent and connecting cabins the same?
No. Connecting cabins have an internal door between them. Confirm the connection on the official plan and reservation rather than relying on nearby room numbers.
Should a family of five book one cabin or two?
Compare the permitted occupancy, beds, bathrooms, privacy and total cost of actual available options. A family-category label alone does not establish that a particular cabin fits five.
