Quantum of the Seas Dining Overview

Royal Caribbean dining on Quantum of the Seas blends traditional cruise elements with modern flexibility.

Here’s how it works:

  • Complimentary dining is included in your cruise fare.
  • Specialty restaurants require an additional fee.
  • You can choose Traditional Dining (fixed time and table) or My Time Dining (flexible reservations).

Traditional vs My Time Dining

Traditional dining assigns you an early or late seating in the Main Dining Room at the same table nightly. This is ideal if you enjoy consistent service and dining with the same waitstaff.

My Time Dining gives you flexibility, but reservations are strongly recommended. One common mistake I see? Families assume they can walk up at 6:30 pm and be seated immediately. That is peak time — and waits can be long.

If this were my client traveling with young children, I would often suggest early Traditional Dining for consistency and smoother evenings.

What’s Included in Your Fare

Your cruise fare covers meals in:

  • Main Dining Room
  • Windjammer Marketplace
  • Café @ Two70 (breakfast & lunch)
  • Sorrento’s Pizza

Soft-serve ice cream and some snacks are included. Specialty coffee, alcohol, and fresh juices cost extra unless you purchase a beverage package.

Complimentary Dining on Quantum of the Seas

Main Dining Room (Silk, Chic, The Grande, American Icon Grill)

Quantum of the Seas features multiple themed dining rooms, but today they operate together as a cohesive Main Dining Room experience.

The menu rotates nightly and typically includes:

  • Lobster tail on formal night
  • Prime rib or roasted beef tenderloin
  • International options inspired by Mediterranean and Asian cuisines
  • Vegetarian and gluten-free selections

Dress code ranges from smart casual to formal. Formal night is optional but fun if you enjoy dressing up.

Who is this best for? Families who appreciate a structured dinner and couples who enjoy a slower, plated experience.

Windjammer Marketplace

The Windjammer is your buffet option for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Breakfast includes made-to-order omelets, pastries, fruit, and hot options. Lunch and dinner often feature carving stations, pasta, and global cuisine.

Peak times are 8:00–9:30 am and around 6:00 pm. I always advise clients to dine earlier or later to avoid crowds.

Café @ Two70

Open primarily for breakfast and lunch, Café @ Two70 serves lighter fare like paninis, salads, soups, and pastries.

Many of my clients are surprised to learn how calm this venue feels compared to Windjammer. It’s an excellent embarkation day lunch strategy.

Sorrento’s Pizza

Located on the Royal Esplanade, Sorrento’s serves pizza slices late into the evening.

If you have teens, this will likely become a frequent stop. It’s also a practical solution after late excursions when you do not want a full sit-down meal.

Coastal Kitchen (Suite Guests)

Reserved for suite guests (and Pinnacle Club members), Coastal Kitchen blends California cuisine with Mediterranean flair.

This is one of the most valuable suite perks in my opinion. The atmosphere is quieter, and the service feels elevated.

Pro Tip: If you are booking a Junior Suite, ask about Coastal Kitchen access for dinner. Availability can vary by sailing, and it is often not clearly explained during booking.

Specialty Restaurants on Quantum of the Seas

Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine

Wonderland is an experience-driven restaurant with whimsical presentations and creative flavor combinations.

Go here for the atmosphere — not necessarily because you are craving a traditional entrée.

Is it worth it? For adventurous eaters celebrating something special, yes. For picky eaters, probably not.

Chops Grille

Royal Caribbean’s signature steakhouse serves filet mignon, ribeye, and seafood towers.

The cover charge is typically around $55–$65 per person. If you love steakhouse dining at home, this is one of the more reliable specialty choices.

Jamie’s Italian

Jamie’s Italian offers handmade pastas, truffle dishes, and rustic Italian flavors.

Families often enjoy this venue because the menu feels approachable while still elevated. The meat plank appetizer and prawn linguine are strong choices.

Izumi Japanese Cuisine

Izumi’s menu is primarily Americanized Japanese — sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, and hot rice bowls.

A common misconception is that it is always a flat fee. On many sailings, it is priced à la carte unless you are using a dining package. This is where careful review of Cruise Planner pricing matters.

Chef’s Table

This intimate, multi-course dinner is hosted by the ship’s executive chef and limited to a small group.

Ideal for anniversaries or milestone celebrations. It is a premium-priced experience but very well executed.

Quantum of the Seas Dining Packages Explained

The Unlimited Dining Package allows you to dine at multiple specialty venues for one set price. There are also 3-night packages.

When do they save money?

  • If you plan to dine specialty 3+ evenings on a 7-night cruise
  • If you prefer upscale dining nightly

When do they not?

  • If you will be off the ship late in port most evenings
  • If your family prefers casual dining flexibility

Break-even math matters here. I always calculate the per-meal cost for my clients before recommending a package.

Sample Daily Dining Plan (Family-Friendly Strategy)

Embarkation Day: Lunch at Café @ Two70 to avoid Windjammer crowds. Reserve a specialty dinner for this night for best availability.

Sea Day: Main Dining Room for breakfast or brunch. Specialty dinner like Chops.

Port Day: Flexible Windjammer dinner if excursions run late.

Formal Night: Main Dining Room to enjoy lobster night.

Top Dining Mistakes to Avoid

  • Waiting too long to pre-book specialty restaurants
  • Buying an Unlimited Dining Package without calculating usage
  • Scheduling dinner too close to port departure times
  • Not reviewing menus in advance for picky eaters

One thing I often explain to families planning this trip: dining reservations are a limited resource, especially on popular Alaska sailings.

Bonus Tip: The best pricing for dining packages often appears pre-cruise inside the Cruise Planner portal. Prices frequently increase once onboard.

Stephanie’s Perspective as a Royal Caribbean Specialist

The biggest surprise for first-time Quantum guests is how much strategy impacts dining satisfaction.

Guests who plan reservations in advance tend to rave about their experience. Guests who “wing it” often mention long waits or sold-out specialty venues.

This is where thoughtful planning makes a big difference. For more tips on planning your cruise, check out my Royal Caribbean cruise planning guide.

Is Quantum of the Seas Dining Worth It?

You will love it if:

  • You enjoy mixing classic cruise dining with specialty experiences
  • You like having flexible options
  • You appreciate international flavors

You may prefer another ship if:

  • You want a very traditional, single dining room format
  • You do not want to think about reservations at all

For most families I work with, the variety enhances the experience — when planned properly.
